About the Author

For nearly forty years, Larry Burks thought about writing a book. Back then, writing meant a yellow tablet, a pencil, and eventually sitting down in front of a manual typewriter. Somehow, there was always a good reason to put it off until another day.

A career in the United States Air Force came first, followed by another career as a staff member at Texas Tech University. Retirement finally took away a few of those excuses, and Larry discovered that computers were considerably more forgiving than typewriters.

What started as a long-delayed dream has grown into writing for two very different audiences. Larry writes adult fiction filled with suspense, adventure, and characters who sometimes have their own ideas about where the story should go.

He is also the author of the My Family series of children’s help books. The series grew from a very personal experience—trying to find the right words to help his granddaughter understand grief and the loss of someone she loved. That experience led to books designed to help families include children in difficult conversations about grief, adoption, disability, parents living apart, PTSD, multicultural families, and other situations children may see and experience but not fully understand.

Larry and his wife, Peggy, live in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by family and with no shortage of ideas for the next story.

Today, the yellow tablet and manual typewriter have been replaced by a computer, but the reason for writing remains pretty simple: tell a good story, connect with the reader, and maybe leave them with something worth thinking about after they close the book.
